4 DIY Halloween Costumes That Won’t Spook Your Budget

You’ve picked the pumpkins in preparation. You’ve bought (and taste-tested) the candy. You’ve searched for the perfect costume, but alas, everything costs more than you’d like to spend.

If putting together the perfect Halloween costume for your kids is starting to feel more like a trick than a treat, take a deep breath. Because we’re here to help. Below, you’ll find a few fool (and ghoul) proof costume ideas that can be thrown together quicker than you can say boo. And the best part? You probably own most of these things already.

The Littlest Lumberjack

Everyone loves a lumberjack costume. It’s comfy, super cute and practical for cooler trick-or-treating temps. To create this costume, you just need jeans, a flannel shirt, suspenders and a stocking hat. Some work boots (like these Lugz) and a toy ax pull everything together. Bonus points if you’re able to draw on a fake beard.

The Cutest Cowgirl

This one is a classic. Start out with a western-inspired shirt. Something in a checkered pattern should do the trick. Then, add a bandana, a jean skirt and (obviously!) a cowgirl hat. For the perfect cowgirl boots, look no further than this pair from Steve Madden.

The Retro Hoopster

Have a spare basketball lying around? Then putting together this costume will be a cinch. All you’ll need are tall socks, gym shorts and a tank top (we think these look best if they’re in the same color). Add a stripe to each side of the shorts with white duct tape for a little throwback action. Since Converse were originally used as basketball shoes, they’re definitely the style of choice here. Oh, and don’t forget that basketball!

The Rockin’ Rockstar

Everyone wants to be a star…and on Halloween, those dreams become reality with the coolest (and simplest) rockstar getup. All this look requires is leggings, a long tunic and some awesome shoes. We think these sparkly Skechers high tops are perfect for the gig. The accessories really bring this costume together. Throw in a blow-up guitar, a plastic mic and anything that glitters.

We hope your kids are able to get use out of these costumes long after Halloween is over…and we also hope that they share their candy. Shop these styles on Famous.com and share your costume pics with us in the comments below!
