To get in the spirit, we had a Q&A session with two members of the team about their love for the sport, what it’s like to prepare for their competition-packed summer and (of course!) their favorite Sperry styles.

Stu McNay

Specialty: Two-person dinghy
Position: Helm

Q: Where did you start sailing?
A: I started sailing on Buzzards Bay near Cape Cod. My first sailing class was at a local day camp.

Q: What do you always bring on the boat?
A: Two wetsuits, a lifejacket, a warm top, sunglasses and, of course, my Sperry’s.

Q: What’s your favorite Sperry style?
A: The Leeward. You can wear them to almost any occasion!

Q: When you’re not sailing, what’s your favorite show to binge watch?
A: I like House of Cards. I’ll be disappointed when I finally see all the episodes!

Briana Provancha

Specialty: Two-person dinghy
Position: Crew

Q: How did you get into sailing?
A: I started sailing at age eight…I didn’t take to it right away. I had to be convinced! I was a “dock-clinger” for sure. I really started to love the sport when I became a crew instead of a driver.

Q: What do you love the most about your Sperry’s?
A: You can wear them on boats or wear them out with your friends. They’re very much an all-around shoe. Even if you’re off the beaten path, they’re great wherever you go.

Q: How important is it to sail in the right shoes?
A: [My feet are] the only part of me that’s connected to the boat during most of a race. I need to make sure the footwear I use is top-of-the-line. We’re grateful to be able to race in Sperry!

Q: What’s your favorite song?
A: “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett is my jam right now!
