“I’m going on a diet forever, I’m gonna run five miles every morning, I’ll never—hey, is that a cookie?” If this sounds like you on January 1st of every year, don’t worry. We’ve all been there before. And while the start of a new year is a great time to set some new fitness goals and push your limits, we think the best way to see real results is to find a calorie-burning activity you love and throw yourself into it. Not sure what to do?
We have some ideas to get you started.
Exercise 1: Running
So you want to be a runner? It all starts with the right pair of running shoes. Like the Nike Air Max Dynasty. Once you have your Nike running shoes, you need a plan. If you’re a new runner, you can get your body used to the activity by alternating a few minutes of running with a few minutes of walking. Remember to go at your own pace. It’s not about how fast you run—all that matters is that you put one foot in front of the other.
Exercise 2: Cross-Training
If you want to burn a lot of calories while experimenting with a variety of exercises, try cross-training. This is any sort of aerobic exercise that involves side-to-side movement. Think basketball, weight training, kickboxing, etc. (Tip: Try a variety to see what you like, it’s harder to get bored when you mix things up!) Since cross-training involves lots of movement, cross-trainers have wide soles to provide more stability and tread with extra grip. For cross-training shoes, try the Nike Flex Trainer 6—we think you’ll love ‘em.
Exercise 3: Walking
Walking is such a simple exercise, one that can yield great results! Like all workout routines, you’ll want to start with a pair of walking shoes. Go for something lightweight, supportive and flexible, like the Skechers GOwalk. If you’re walking on a treadmill, push yourself a little by adjusting the incline. And if you’re walking outside, throw in some lunges every now and then to keep things interesting.
Exercise 4: Dance Aerobics
Want to get a great workout while feeling like you’re at a dance party? Try dance aerobics! These workouts incorporate a blend of dance moves and traditional cardio exercises, so definitely bring your A-game! Oh, and you’ll also want to bring your shoes. We recommend these adidas Neo Raleigh high tops. They have great ankle support for those side-to-side moves and a flat sole for those quick front-to-back turns. And as a bonus, they’re also super cute.
Remember, this isn’t about developing a six-pack overnight. It’s about finding an activity you love and sticking to it. Good luck! And don’t forget that you can shop all athletic shoes on Famous.com.
