As beautiful as they look on catwalks, runway fashions aren’t meant for daily wear. I love the look of a five-inch heel, but as a busy mom and a working woman, it’s just not practical for my life. However, I do not believe in sacrificing great style, whether I am on the go or spending time with my kids. I take inspiration from the runway and then buy looks that are affordable and comfortable.
When I shop for shoes, I look to the hot designers and my favorite
celebrities for inspiration. For instance, nude pumps are the perfect accessory to go with spring and summer’s popular colors. While the heels on runway pumps are a little high for my everyday life, I still love the look and found these fabulous nude slingbacks. They are so affordable, I bought the same shoe in black. The shoe works well with skinny jeans at night. They never go out of style and are the perfect shoe for work or a girls’ night.
Color is everywhere this season. Though I am not planning to wear bright red from head to toe, I will certainly be wearing my red cropped jeans this season. To balance it out, the runway designers featured great metallic accessories. These light gunmetal thongs give me a little lift while also capitalizing on a trend I love. While I bought them to wear with my red jeans, they are also girlie enough to wear with a bright sundress, a wrist cuff and hoop earrings for a casual day-into-evening look.
These wedges have two great benefits: Their bright colors are straight off the runway, and their wedge style gives petite
women like me extra height. I love that I can wear them to my son’s baseball game but also go to lunch with friends and still feel put together.
Stripes were a runway favorite this year, but they’re not for everyone, especially a busy mom who needs basics.
However, I found these adorable Audrey Hepburn-inspired striped ballet flats by Roxy. These shoes never go out of style like those trendy striped pants will, and they make any outfit look chic. I pair them with enamel bangles and a beige sling bag that can fit my entire life, and I look runway fabulous.
Many fashion shows featured large black and white geometric prints. This look can be tough to translate into real-world clothing, because it does not complement the figures of most women. But any woman can work this trend using accessories. I found these chunky-heeled, strappy black sandals and paired them with a geometric print tote. This is the perfect combination with white pants, a black tank and a white cardigan. It’s very runway, yet very wearable.
I love the convenience of flip-flops, but I don’t like the lack of support and cushioning. Luckily, cushy flip-flops were all the rage on the runway. The runway showed them with socks, but I still prefer a perfect pedicure in one of this season’s bright pinks. These Nike Women’s Comfort flip-flops are fresh and crisp for spring and absorb some of the shock from the pavement.
